Our recent blizzard/whiteouts here in the Midwest only make me more determined to start digging in the dirt. My goal this growing season is to be able to offer a diverse selection of vegetables, herbs, & Flora to use for tablescaping on inner-city community dining events. A friend of mine inspired me to grow a garden in a vacant lot in what some people might call the ghetto…LOL.
But the neighborhood is actually extremely diverse with Asian, Haitian, African-American, Croatian, and South American families and I cannot wait to experience preparing and sharing indigenous food dishes within those groups.
On a recent visit to that neighborhood, we chatted up preparing and planning what seeds we will plant and what menus we can create later this summer.
It will truly take a village, but since there is one, I feel like this is a win-win for all of us. And I so look forward to sharing the cultural food differences, and what we will learn from each other.
Especially, now more than ever, everyone deserves a seat at the table & an opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves.
